All the social media snippets of grunting and sweating and coaches screaming about more burpees has given exercise a bad name. So if you find yourself hating [insert exercise] then try something else!
Because our brains are really good at what they do, our habit stacks aren’t lost after a week of skipping them on vacation. In fact, our brain doesn’t even consider it ‘skipping’ because it wasn’t the time or place for the habit stack to occur. Which means that when you return home and get into your normal routine of things.
When my husband saw the scale inch up over 200 lbs, I literally saw him shake his head. Shake. His. Head. And I didn’t murder him. That’s real love, y’all.
One of the weirder fad diets that has hung around FAR longer than it should is the idea of liquid diets. Weight loss is hard enough for most people, why would you want to make it even tougher with more hunger pangs and never getting to feel like you’ve eaten enough?
You can see how this is the reverse of how you fell off the wagon in the first place. All we’re doing here is reversing the process with small swaps and small choices that begin moving the needle in the opposite direction.
Deciding what you want the running app to do is where we begin. Running apps can do a few different things: serve as a coach of sorts; provide community (likes, comments, etc); track your run stats; or get you started.
All three of them encourage whole, nutrient dense foods (fruits, veggies and leaner meats) while discouraging processed, sugary foods. Yet for some reason, advocates for each style will happily sit down to argue why their way of eating is superior to all other ways of eating, both for weight loss and living a healthy lifestyle.
The same goes for diets or workout plans – ask around and you’ll get mixed reviews from family and friends. There’s the one friend who swears by keto, another who says going vegan saved her life, and still another who says her whole life changed when she joined a Crossfit gym. So on the research goes, trying to figure out what’s the one thing that actually works.
Double punishment can go on for YEARS if we don’t catch ourselves. Literally, years. Your weight loss journey could span five or ten years, and all that while you’ll be feeling frumpy in clothes you hate, and wondering why you don’t have motivation to stick to it.
The fact is, who’s around us matters, and it matters way more than we think it does. And it can influence us in both positive and negative ways that we don’t often realize in the moment.
The reality is that if getting healthy or losing the weight or feeling good in your body was as simple as following a meal plan, we’d all have done it by now.
