Why I Don’t Coach Weight Loss: Root Causes of Excess Weight and How to Address Them

Apr 20, 2023

Losing weight can feel like an overwhelming task, especially when you’re juggling work, family, and everything in between. But here’s a secret: I don’t coach weight loss. Nope, not even a little bit. Why? Because weight loss is just a symptom. Instead, my coaching revolves around the root of your excess weight.

You see, there are so many factors that contribute to weight gain beyond just what we eat and how much we exercise. Things like stress, misaligned priorities, ignorance, our relationship with food and exercise, and our beliefs about ourselves and our self-talk all play a role in our health and well-being.

Here it is:

I understand how easy it is to fall into the trap of relying on quick fixes or fad diets to try and shed those extra pounds – I’ve tried them myself (and am admittedly still tempted by some that sound too good to be true!). But here’s the thing: those solutions are temporary at best, and often leave us feeling even more frustrated and defeated in the long run.

That’s why my coaching focuses on creating sustainable, long-term changes that address the root causes of excess weight. My goal is to help identify and overcome the obstacles that are holding you back, whether that’s stress from work or family, a lack of knowledge about nutrition and fitness, or negative self-talk that’s keeping you stuck in a cycle of self-sabotage.

Getting to the root cause

One of the things I’m constantly addressing is our relationship with food and exercise. Instead of viewing these things as a punishment or a means to an end (i.e. weight loss), I help women like you cultivate a more positive and nourishing relationship with both. That might mean experimenting with new recipes, finding an exercise routine that you actually enjoy, or simply being more mindful when you’re caring for your body.

My coaching also helps shift your mindset around weight loss. Instead of focusing solely on the number on the scale, I’m always pointing out reasons to celebrate your progress and victories along the way (trust me, there are A LOT!). Maybe that means feeling more energized throughout the day, or finally fitting into those jeans that have been collecting dust in your closet.

Another key component of my coaching is stress management. As a busy mom, you’re often juggling multiple roles and responsibilities, which can lead to chronic stress and burnout – I know I don’t need to tell you that. Incorporating easy and quick stress-reducing practices into your daily routine will help improve your overall health and well-being.

Finally, another thing I stress with my coaching – you don’t have to do this alone! As your health coach – whether you’re a current or future client or an avid reader of my blog/follower on social media – I’ll be there to support you every step of the way, providing accountability, motivation, and practical advice to help you achieve your goals.
