You Don’t Have To Get Back In Shape Alone
“I don’t want to do it alone!” – Mary
When my client (and business coach and friend) said this to me about her health journey, it felt like she put into a few short words the entire reason I created my group health coaching program, the Running with Bacon Online Community (RWBOC for short).
Even as a health coach, I don’t want to get and stay healthy all on my own. I’m sure I could, but I don’t WANT to.
It’s so much more fun with other people. Helping cheer them on when they’re crushing it; motivating them when they’ve fallen off a bit. It’s the other people that make it so much more fun and do-able.
A Collective Journey
Inside the RWBOC we get to see how others work around busy schedules or lack of equipment or having family in town for a week.
We get to see how others bounce back after taking a few days off for vacation; or yet how others do even better on vacation because they have more time.
Seeing how we’re all human and have times where we take amazing care of ourselves, and then other times where we fall off big time.
It helps make the entire journey feel more do-able because we’re getting to witness the journey of others.
There’s a collective effort to make healthy the ‘norm’ in each of our lives.
Positive Accountability
As a member, when I see someone who’s been super consistent, despite juggling all the things, I can ask myself what’s standing in my way? What excuse am I letting myself get away with?
And on the flip side, when I see another member struggling, I can offer things that have helped me when I was struggling and help them through it faster than I was able to get through it.
Both sides of the coin are providing positive accountability – both for myself, you, and other members.
I say positive because I firmly believe positive reinforcement is the way to go about getting and staying healthy.
Sure, negative reinforcement and/or consequences may help for a little while, they may get you to a short term goal like fitting into a big-occasion dress.
But that type of motivation doesn’t encourage the life-long habits that make healthy (almost) effortless and so much fun!
And I say accountability because while we’re learning to give ourselves grace, we also hold each other accountable to what we say we want to do.
It’s absolutely okay for goals to change, and like mentioned above, we’re all humans. But we don’t let each other get away with the bull shit excuses that we like to give ourselves.
Because there’s a collective troubleshooting of ‘life’ happenings, if someone is going through some tough times, we’re there for support, but also with ideas for how to keep up the progress they worked so dang hard for; how to keep eating well, despite having less time than ever.
You’re Not Alone
It’s too easy to fall into the trap of thinking you’re in it alone. Losing weight, eating better, reversing a health condition – it can feel isolating and like no one else gets it.
But when you find a group of people who are all in it together, despite being on their own respective journeys, you find out your situation isn’t unique – and that’s a fantastic thing!
It means it can be done! It means YOU can do it too! And it means you’ve got a group of people to lean on when it gets hard, or when life gets in the way.
I know you’ve heard the phrase that raising children takes a village, but so does ‘raising’ the healthiest version of yourself.
You don’t have to go it alone!
In the RWBOC, it’s the more, the merrier. If you want to find out if we’re your people, head here to learn more.
If you aren’t sure about what kind of support you need, just email me and I’ll be happy to help figure it out, even if it results in me not getting to be your health coach.
I know you can do this on your own if you had to, but you don’t have to! Find your people – it’s soooo worth it!
